that's kinda the meaning of publisher and I reckon SE is the publisher of this game.
if the roles were reversed, like Sunset Overdrive you mean?
I don't see many overreaction from that, because when you start a new IP you can easily explain why it's going exclusive. This however, can certainly going multiplatform without all that talk about the project denied or need dedicated server, so it is certain that it becomes exclusive because MS paid them.
There's a big difference on starting a new IP exclusively and making a famous multiplatform...
a logical move, by hiding whether it's timed or not they can get sales from fans who buy XB1 for this and avoiding direct competition with Uncharted 4. Then they can release it on other platform when there's no competition.
logical, but by no means pleasing move.
what great showing they had was shadowed by underhanded moves, such a shame considering Quantum Break gameplay reveal was awesome.
It's not really a great business deal. This is like "forcing" the fans to buy XB1, not making them "want" to buy XB1.
It's a different case if say, MS stated that it's a co-developed project like Bloodborne is. But what this is, is MS paid them a hella lot of cash to make it exclusive, and that's certainly not a move people can appreciate. Also this is a well-known multiplatform franchise, not a new IP like Bungie or Insomniac did, people will know...
well they gonna get that money but angered many people off in turn, just like that top comment on the link..
Truly unexpected.
now I won't be waiting for Halo 5 to buy XB1 I guess..
or perhaps wait a bit, see if it comes to another platform or not.
edit: some says exclusive for 2015, I must've missed that, back to waiting for Halo 5 I guess..
Quantum Break will be The Order: 1886 counter-troll, believe me.
Overhyped maybe, but none of those games really sucked. Some are great, maybe average at worst. You can't just label a game sucks only because it gets so many controversies.
FYI the games listed are South Park, Dark Souls 2, MGS V: GZ, TitanFall, Watch Dogs.
add duke nukem forever and aliens: colonial marines to the list.
Persona Series
SMT: Devil Summoner series
Xenogears
FF IX
Grandia
Suikoden 2
Tales of Eternia
Wild Arms
Mass Effect series
The Witcher series
Fallout 3
Atelier series
Arc the Lad series
Kingdom Hearts series
most of it only on internet though, I personally know some hardcore fanboys on the internet who's really chill about console preferences in the real life.
I guess since the internet is anonymous they think it's interesting to act a little extreme, kinda like how many people choose the evil route on games like fallout or mass effect.
It's a similar situation with X360, it had various genre of exclusive games early on to try garnering some install base only to dwindle and became dudebro console later on.
The thing is, if your reason to buy XB1 is that you're expecting they'll offer you different genres of exclusives than their previous console, you'd best pray hard.
what's with the need to compare everything similar?
they're not holding these events to compete against one another..
"But E3 is in danger of losing its prominence in the hierarchy of video game relevance"
dear lord, talk about exaggerated headlines..
dead, really?
in this year alone there's:
Tales of Xillia 2
Tales of Zestiria
KH 2.5
Natural Doctrine
Guilty Gear Xrd
waiting to be released, all of them 3rd party exclusives.
3rd party exclusives aren't always being paid by the console company.
for example many of niche JRPG titles being exclusives to Sony/Nintendo because they have loyal fanbase on them and it'd cause loss instead of profit if they release it on other platform, especially if it's a retail titles. The small sales won't be able to cover the development and publishing cost.
unless of course, the cost of development/publishing is being paid by console company like mos...
Well duh, it's originally a PC title..
more like the end of the decade..
and I still remember how they solidly stated they'll never unbundle Kinect from Xbox One.
It says something when you make your userbase happy by robbing the other userbase their happiness.
