I have to agree with some of the comments regarding new IP in the PS5 generation, it has been woefully lacking to say the least. Even worse when you consider the excellent games we got in basically every other PlayStation generation.
On the bright side, Sony has finally noticed, publicly admitted and resolved to rectify the situation. Right now I can think of at least half a dozen new IP in development for PlayStation 5, the only downside is that none of them are near ready...
The prices for *some* games was a bit of a surprise, but not wholly unexpected considering the rest of the gaming industry.
I’ve paid those kinds of prices for PS5 and Series X games many times in the past, so it doesn’t really put me off.
I can however, see how people used to the more affordable prices of Switch 1 games are taken aback by the sharp increase in prices for some games.
As for the KeyCard games, I’m not a fan, I’d rather o...
Nintendo has long suffered from that image, not that they do much to try and change it of course, they want to appeal to a very wide age range and family gaming is a large part of their marketing.
Having said that, there’s been no shortage of games you wouldn’t want your kids anywhere near on their platforms for a long time now. The Wii is probably one of the worst offenders for the “family friendly” image and certainly back in the days when hiroshi yamauchi was in charge, ...
I think, as the author says himself at the end of the article, this system isn’t aimed at him, fair enough. If you prefer PlayStation and PC gaming and flashy graphics over portability and Nintendo first party games, then you are certainly not the target.
Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I have a PS5 Pro, PlayStation Portal, Series X, gaming laptop, Steam Deck and Legion Go in the current generation and I like them all for different reasons.

I mostly agree, I have my PC/PS5 Pro and XsX for their exclusives and multi platform releases. Switch and Switch 2 are and will be primarily for the Nintendo exclusives.
Having said that, I’m not a graphics whore, I like games to look nice whenever possible, but gameplay matters more than anything to me. And I also kind of think of it in the same terms as anything else, cameras for instance.
I have a DSLR and a ton of lenses for when I know I’m specifically going t...
I hardly ever post, but I’m making an exception for a change. You’re right, there will be 0 games that hit 4K 120 even when docked, Nintendo’s own specs, when you read the small print state that 4K output is limited to 60fps maximum.
But still, not too bad, I can’t get that on my SD or Lgo with anything more demanding than really simple games.
Not to mention that you can use nigh on any USB-C adapter/dock with HDMI out with SD anyway. That Valve hadn’t released theirs until a few months ago ultimately didn’t matter in that regard.
Frankly it's about time consoles were designed as a future forward platform.
I've been waiting 30 odd years for someone to make a consistent console platform that will allow the games we buy today to be played on the hardware that is made in the future. Persistent backward compatibility, not just for the previous generation, but every generation. I think we're finally at a point where that might actually be about to happen and I'm all for it.
Only 1000, only!! Seriously? Who the hell keeps that many screenshots of games anyway?
And thank goodness for that. For Skyrim I have, well, Skyrim. Seriously though, comparisons are bound to be drawn with large open world fantasy games. The author of the article is as entitled to their opinion as anyone else. If it's not for him, fair enough.
I don't think I'd go into any Zelda game expecting it to be like Skyrim of course, but then I've played all of the Zelda games so I know what to expect. Even if this one changes up the formula quite dramatically....
Nothing like a bit of optimism eh?
Ffs, at least give it a chance to be on sale first, we haven't even had the proper announcement yet. I for one am looking forward to the 12th and I'll probably be buying the Switch.
One because I like Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Mario Kart and so on. And two because I'm one of the (apparently few) people who loved the gamepad. I like the off-screen play for when the wife is watching her crap on my beloved OLED :D

Oh my god, paying for a product, what the hell, thats not right it should be free it's only a bloody mobile game!!!!
Yeeeaaahhh, over in the real world that's how things work. I bought it and I don't regret it. I've played it more than any other mobile game in a while.
The fact that it's a "mobile game" is completely and utterly irrelevant. It's a game! Dozens of people worked on it for months and are continuing to work ...
Strictly speaking Nintendo didn't support the CDi. There were of course games with Nintendo characters on the CDi, but literally Nintendo's only involvement with them was to approve the visual style of the characters.
Philips obtained a licence to use a handful of Nintendo characters as part of the deal made with Nintendo after the Nintendo and Sony deal went south. And even though the same thing happened with the Nintendo/Philips team up, Philips still retained th...
Yup, guaranteed to get the fires burning and the pitchforks out ;)
Want the best games and features? Then the choice is simple get both systems. I'm happy with my PS4 Pro and Xbox One S, best of both worlds.
What a load of complete and utter crap. I'm sorry but there's really no other way to put that. It's complete nonsense. Developing for the PS4 system is now no different at all from how you would develop a game for the PC, lest we forget that the PS4/Pro are actually just mid range computers.
You develop your game with scaleability in mind. You create higher resolution textures and modify your engine to take advantage of a higher resolution/frame rate/draw dista...
The only thing I notice noise wise from my Pro is the disc spinning and that's hardly loud, don't notice it above the sound volume once the games started, so no complaints there at all. Mine is in a well ventilated space so that probably helps it to stay nice and quiet.
More about maximising profit thank keeping the price down if we're honest. The component cost of the PS4 Pro doesn't equate to the £100 premium over the base model, it's to ensure they make profit on the system, which is fine obviously. But they could have taken $10 less profit and included the UHD player at the same price point if they'd wanted to.
Honestly I'm not particularly bothered, I just think it would have made more sense in a system they are pushin...
Not including a UHD player has nothing to do with a format war. 4K Blu-Ray currently only supports HDR10 and it always will, its part of the specification. So even if somewhere down the road a Blu-Ray with Dolby Vision is released, it also has to support HDR10. There's literally nothing to lose from including an UHD player in the Pro other than some profit.
Yeah I've got the C6 too and I don't notice the lag. It's not made a difference in game anyway. I was well aware of the higher lag of the screen before I bought it. I also tried it out first and it was fine. Of course if you sacrifice HDR you can cut the lag time in half, so it's odd that they haven't enabled it for HDR as well.
I've still got my Samsung (which was a top of the range one) the OLED is replacing and playing the same game on each feels...
It would be awesome if every game made had no major issues and didn’t require any patches from day one. Unfortunately, with the complexity of [most] games these days, that’s an unrealistic expectation.
There’s not a dev out there who wouldn’t like more time to work on their baby. But, outside of self-published, they’re not the ones who are setting a release date. Eventually the bean counters, sitting in their luxurious offices, decide that enough time and money has been spent creatin...
