what would be interesting is to take the money they made (assuming) from the PS1 add it to the money from the PS2, and then subtract it from the cost of making the PS3 and see if they even blinked from 3.31 billion or if they are taking a "hit" with the PS3 after all.

then the xbox3 would look antiquated compared to the ps4. there is a point where releasing something too soon can backfire, (e.g. quality of hardware, people feeling ripped off if they've owned it for less than 1-2 years, etc). microsoft needs to convey that they care about people getting a console late into its lifespan and not always just appealing to early adopters ("hardcore" gamers).
it only comes with the territory, (more people who use the software = more opportunities for holes to be found). the important thing is how fast it gets patched. mozilla has always been quick to plug holes, this will be moot in no time.
bottom line: software will ALWAYS need to be updated, period. no need to get all melodramatic.

30 min is a stretch but we'll use it for your example:
the game is played 300 times over the course of 3 months

300 times * 10 seconds = 3000 seconds
3000 seconds / 60 seconds = 50 minutes
50 min > 30 min = sucks to be you
