I think my 3 reasons are why Call of Duty just keeps going. It hits those 3 nails on the head year after year. People may start hating the gameplay, but for any newcomer, as all of us once were, they could easily fall in love with it's fast and hectic gameplay if its new to them.
I'm playing it right now. It has cool elements but too much cover to cover shooting. The cut scenes, story and acting are great, even the graphics are real good, all fairly close to on par with Uncharted believe it or not. But gameplay is below average as well as the controls.
Gameplay, controls and Environment is all that matters. You can have the greatest story ever, but if the game takes place in a cardboard box with horrible charatcer movements it will suck. If you have a shitty story but the game takes place in an awesome environment, smooth controls with lots of cool stuff to do the game will rock.
It's down because there is no "new" price drop for Xbox this year. However, they do have that 99 dollar thing planned that will surely boost sales.

If Socom 4 ever fixed it's headshot issue, I'd say it's the greatest online shooter this generation. It's a true complete shooter. Great maps that are both big and small, and classic maps that will blow ur mind with how they look, not kiddy cod looking maps. Great game modes unlike other games and all are available in Non respawn as well. Up to 32 players and it runs flawlessly. Both zipper games (mag, Socom 4) were really overlooked by ps3 gamers. I bet black ops 2 will be more of the same. Bad frame rate, gun camos taking 2 seconds to load after spawning, laggy menus. Zombies was the worst, it gave you a headache the framerate and lag were so bad
BF3 makes me say that. Bad company is decent but they're not ground breaking shooters.

5 reasons why Black Ops got boring fast.
1. The sound in the game is terrible, it's so dull and unrealistic. Sound is arguably the most important part of a shooter. It needs to be loud, crisp and realistic. It amplifies the shooter experience more than anything else.
2. Too many guns sucked.
