That game was going to happen with the old infinity ward until they all bailed out from activision after the heads got fired. If you think an average dev like Treyarch can reinvent cod and do what Cod4 did you're nuts.
They wouldn't if there was another incentive to keep playing, like a skilled ranking system where you want to get better, trophies or achievements, some sort of competitive clan environment, like dedicated lobbies. You can have interesting things and keep gameplay simple.

I want it to be creepy as hell. Out in the middle of the woods somewhere. World at war had some creepy maps, not so much black ops
They both get boring because both lack a competitive environment. There is only so much screwing around you can do before it becomes repetitive. The competitive side will keep the replay value limitless.
Top competitive shooters are games like Halo, counter strike and Socom

If true, this means no new consoles in 2013 because we already know infinity ward and sledgehammer are working on a next gen cod. This never soft game is the filler game, the fall 2013 release before next gen. Activision would never allow this company to ship a next gen cod first.
Battlefirld 3 is bad company 3. Does it really take a genius to figure that out?

Sony better start charging for online next-gen, and make an affordable yet profitable system, or else they will be toast.
Sony must be in big trouble, or they are cancelling and consolidating for next gen. When they closed down Zipper, those guys were also working on that new innovative shooter, can't remember the name of it.
Sony should just close every studio except Naughty Dog, and just build that studio 5 times bigger and have them make several games. Between Sony's debt the last couple of years, horrible marketing and mostly uninteresting exclusives I don't see the studio closing spree ending anytime soon. This is like their 5th closing in the last 6 months. And they're not small-time studios either.
