There're quite a few games that really impressed me, but one that sticks out is the original Far Cry. I'd just got a new graphics card for it (9800 pro I think it was) and it was absolutely amazing for the time, which was 14 years ago now. Seeing the trees move like they did, the water with all the fish swimming around, all the particle effects, it was stunning.
Then Doom 3 came along and impressed with its lighting and shadow tech, and then months later Half Life 2...
I love reading the entitled views of gamers on here. Thinking it's their God given right to see everything that's given in previews. Just so they know, this type of thing has gone on for a long time, it didn't start when you left your Mums womb. Game previews have been like this for a long while, and I like it like that. You read about it in a magazine, and see some preview pictures. It makes you look forward to a game.

Utter bullshit. I was born in the South West of England and when I moved away to London it took over 5 years to take on the accent where I lived. And I still had a Combine Harvester twang to my accent years after. A year is nothing.
It might not be the same for others, but I doubt very much that a year is enough to take your accent away.
