I love the overall idea and design. Using a touchpad (or even a trackball) to replace the right analog stick has been something I've wanted for a long time.

I also love the buttons on the back, so that 6 fingers aren't wasted idling about doing nothing on the rear of your usual controller anymore. Scuf professional modded controllers have been doing this for a while, and it's a great innovation.

However, I'm extremely iffy on the idea of using...

The problem with a trackpad for movement is that the movement action is relative to position. Meaning the further you push, the faster you go in a particular direction. An analog stick is perfect for this.

On the other hand, a trackpad (or mouse) is perfect for aiming, because aiming is dictated by absolute position of the input device. Meaning that you have no need to touch/hit the zero point (or lift off your thumb/mouse) to stop your aiming cursor from accelerating. I.e., ...

Trackpad in lieu of the right analog stick is a great idea (one that I've personally considered in the past).

Trackpad instead of the left analog stick (movement), however? Very bad idea.

Fyi, Call of Duty on console has NEVER been a "steady 60fps." All of those installments have seen frequent framerate dips below 60fps (i.e., dips to 50 or 40 fps).

It's just that the dips are infrequent enough to not be noticed by the average player most of the time. Which is what I expect will be the case for Killzone: Shadow Fall also.

You DO realize that all of these supposed 60fps games in the Call of Duty series have significant frame drops (dips to 50 or 40 fps) during hectic gameplay moments, don't you?

The only difference is that Guerilla isn't lying to you (or embellishing the truth) about their game running at a constant 60fps clip. I guaran-damn-tee you that Battlefield 4 on console will see occasional framerate dips below 60 fps. GUARANTEE you.

Look at the benchmark videos...

"We didn't want to say, we can run at 60 constantly if we just half the resolution and take out all the destructibility and remove all the glass, for example."

Hmm... making reference to Battlefield 4 being sub-1080p, perhaps?

To summarize this article:

Richard Leadbetter (who has shown in the past a favoritism for Xbox) started sweating upon hearing the reports that ACTUAL DEVELOPERS (whom Leadbetter merely chooses to call "unnamed sources;" perhaps to make them sound more dubious than otherwise) are experiencing a ~50% performance advantage on the PS4 over the Xbone. Thus, in his desperate haste, he immediately got in contact with the architects of Xbox to get their damage-control expla...

Because there's nothing wrong with letting young, impressionable kids--whose minds are still developing--play a game that glorifies stealing cars (and do drugs, beat up/shoot people, go to strip clubs, etc.).

Laissez-faire parents like you are why there are a preponderance of immature, racist, mysoginist, idiot kids online and in the gaming community... who in turn grow up to be immature, racist, mysoginist, idiot adults.

Granted, NOT EVERY 10-year old is...

Even the supposed "Hard" modes of many games nowadays seem to hold your hands in so many ways. The surfeit of checkpoints is partly the problem. There are oftentimes massive difficulty spikes as well (not by design) in certain areas or bosses, even though the game as a whole isn't challenging.

No, because some people may like to play games just to go through the narrative, take in the visuals, and/or just otherwise enjoy the experience.

I personally like my games to have a challenge, so I usually play on harder difficulties. I appreciate tense, challenging, edge-of-your-seat gameplay that requires a lot of tactical thinking on my part, or makes my palms a little sweaty.

Microsoft isn't just going to give away more computational power, and eat the extra cost themselves.

No, they're a company, like any other company, driven by profits. Implementing a more powerful, high-end GPU into the GPU would have resulted in an even more expensive console (not to mention even an even bigger size case). Their engineers probably estimated a few years ago, that a GPU in the ballpark of the HD7790 would result in sufficient graphics quality for 90% of...

This mouse uses the exact same chassis as the little-known E-Blu3 Mazer II mouse from Hong Kong.

Ryse looks good. Not even close to being the best looking next-gen game though.

Xbox One delayed in almost half its launch markets. Yeah, no production issues at all.

More positive impressions of the PS4 controller:

"Thankfully Sony has rectified that and the new controller is now easily as good as the Xbox One controller, if not better."

What does FCC certification have to do with yield problems, and Microsoft cutting their countries for launch by nearly half?

I personally don't care that much if the graphics are watered down in some areas, because in competitive multiplayer games, it's the framerate and gameplay that matters. In this case, having 60fps is preferable to having fancier effects.

Hell, many PC gamers turn off effects like shadows or motion blur in order to gain a competitive advantage in multiplayer.

Fyi, Alex Mendez (@GoldenBoyFTW on Twitter) says that Battlefield 4 on PS4 is "nowhere near as bad" as IGN's Scott Lowe says it is. Mendez has had some pretty extensive hands-on and hands-off experience with the game.

I don't know why people think "tighter" thumbsticks is better. If a thumbstick is too tight, it makes it harder to aim, because your thumb gets fatigued fighting against a higher resistive force all the time.

Unless by "tighter" analog sticks, people are talking about the physical deadzone area?

Sony has outmatched Microsoft at every turn this year. What makes you think they'll have trouble countering this move (if they even have to)?
