It DOES seem a lil soon. You guys are kidding yourselves, truly, if you think sony's gonna sit on their hands for 3 more years. The ps3 debuted 5 years into the ps2 cycle. I wouldn't be surprised if sony and xbox released their respective boxes in holiday 2012. Which would be 6 years into their cycle.
