PS3 will likely follow suit.
Nintendo typically does not have a long life cycle but innovates and is a risk taker.
Microsoft took risk by releasing a shoddy console ahead of technical readiness and paid $3bn and still is with RROD!!
hehe -- Microsoft rushed out the console to get a headstart on installed base which they did. But they did not futureproof the design, focus was to get out first.
While there are small improvements and memory bandwidth improvements, games are still limited to DVD capacity limit and hardware is based on an old PC architecture. XBOX 360 is nearly done, once Sony pushes out God of War III, Heavy Rain and Gran Turismo 5, it will be time to put a fork in Microsoft XBOX 360
