Skyrim looked and ran pretty good on Xbox .... I know ps3 ran crap. My point is that as long as witcher3 runs without micro stutters, has a decent lod and no pop in I can live with 30fps 900p on my ps4. The only thing bothering me is the speech text above the npc's, hopefully it's an option to remove. If I'm going to give up 150 hours or so I want to be on my couch not on my PC.
Purely looking at it from an old games perspective in general publishers don't make money from the second hand games market on console due to lack of backwards compatibility and this service gives them a second bite at the cherry on games that they would not have made a penny on for years.
In some cases it may even prompt them to develop sequels if the play count is high
Publishers won't have included revenue from those games on their forecasts so I don't see that...
Last gen I bought both consoles near launch, initially disappointed by the ps3 but it came good eventually. Will I get an Xbox this time around? Probably. The only fly in the ointment for Microsoft is if Nintendo bring out hd virtual console versions of GameCube and n64. I think that could steal a lot of the second console buyers away.
Liked the beta, not perfect by any means.
Bungie can only be applauded for releasing the beta in the first place, nothing new for pcs I know but for consoles it's hands down a great demo. I'm hoping that it's possible to carry over the level 8 progression but I doubt it, especially if there are cutscenes / mission tweaks.
My only concern is that there seems to be a lot of confusion about what the game actually is, a borderlands clone? A fully fledged mmo? ...

The thing I don't get is Microsoft with all their billions and tech did not properly analyse what would be required in order to produce a console that would at least allow developers to aim high for a couple of years. A simple survey of developers would have told them what was needed, they most probably did that and still ignored them. Is it just me or has the bullshit level increased in the past year or so, saying Xbox is the home of cod is not only insulting to the millions of people who buy it for other systems, it's insulting to the developers.
I don't recall Sony saying the same thing about assassins creed.
This game is one that I really hope doesn't get too downgraded, there is an old skool vibe to it that has got me interested in a good way, 15 years ago it would have been an isometric game. Don't know why I think this.. Probably just been a long day.

Still think short back and sides will be the order of the day, I'm all for wasting gpu cycles on fancy effects but when Lara's hair doesn't respond to gravity when strung upside down it seems that the tech isn't quite there yet. I'd rather have better foliage, shadows that are not pixelated and no pop in and a half decent frame rate.
Halo could have been a long forgotten pc game if ms had not stepped in, kudos to them for seeing potential not just as a game but as a potential system seller.
Fair point, would be interesting to know if the fees charged offset the difference though.

Crash was great to spend an hour or so on but like sonic, suffered from poor sequels and rip offs, give it a back to basics reboot, colourful graphics and fun gameplay that appeals all ages.. Easier said than done.
Console games are more expensive because of the second hand market, it's built into the cost.
The resolution debate for consoles is because of the expectation and the realities, whether that be cost of components, thermal or wattage considerations and the efficiency of the Sdk and optimisation of the engines. Ease of use for the general household is also a factor.

This gen I got ps4 day one and have not regretted it, what I don't understand is all the willy waving, both will have good/ bad games, some will look/ run better than others, no different to last gen.
Be happy the option is there to choose which console to buy in the first place and we are not in another Atari or 3do saga.
Sony focused on getting the ps4 out the same time as x1 in usa / Europe so makes sense for the initial games to be what they are.
Japanese developers have been in the doldrums for a few years console wise anyway so no wonder that sales are yet to kick off. Once those games come out things will pick up, Sony had to release early over here or else play catch up for the first few years again.
I think they could have held off releasing in japan till later this year but I suppose...
After really enjoying the tomb raider def version, I would buy gta5 again... However I hope it's a new red dead redemption game that would be awesome.
Remember that well, thought I was doing great until about 2/3rds of the way through and the fps went thru the floor, thought my PC was on its way out.... Had to switch to 720p to finish it.
