These eight were directed by Kojima and therefore found to be canon. There are some arguments to be made for portable ops, but this is the undeniable list.

The original was released on Playstation 3 a couple years ago so I wouldn't rule it out by any means.
Do you own the original MGS on PlayStation? Check out the briefing tapes. If not, look them up on youtube. I agree that it's very strange, but it's a fact. It's not that I trust the grainy image on the screen, its that he specifically asks Naomi for hair dye and scissors and he takes care of it right then and there. I don't remember if he does so in the Twin Snakes version, but I know this happens in the original. I always thought it was weird that he kept the look afterwards ...

Solid actually was blonde. He dyed his hair during the briefing session before the Shadow Moses Island infiltration to avoid being confused as Liquid (seems like a bad idea, doesn't it?).
Personally, I was psyched that the original idea was going to take place between MGS2 and MGS4. There were so many things Kojima could have explained with such a game. How did Raiden become the badass ninja we saw in MGS4? How did Snake and Raiden rescue Sunny from the Patriots? etc.
Now we may never know. And also, again not to bash MG Rising, but the plot and supporting characters were meh IMO.
As a huge MGS, I pre ordered rising and thought it was alright. I always wish Kojima's original team was able to do it rather than hand it off to platinum games. It would've been so different. More stealthy and an entirely different plot.
