It was great and in some cases, under-appreciated. I loved it.
As for FXIII, I'm a bit concerned about the linearity, but at the same, I'll make that final determination to see if it was great for the game. I'm sure i'll enjoy it. I've played and beaten every major FF game. Wait, sorry...I actually hadn't gone around and beat XII yet. I need to finish that eventually.
All they are talking about is the association of the franchise to the brand. No need to be so serious about it.
Besides, in my case, during the years, FF was on nintendo, 6 (for us geeks) was something that will always have a special place to me. 7 for the Playstation 1 era. 10 for last generation. I'm hoping for the same for XIII, regardless of what system it's on.
