While I see your point, especially fro a price point perspective, it's really too late in the game for them to switch focus away from the gamepad. Their shareholders and other business partners would read it as failure on nintendo's part, these people have no doubt lost a lot of faith in nintendo lately, this would be the last nail in the wii u's coffin. The best time to ditch the gamepad would've been in the development stages, it's simply too late now. In my humble opini...
The next thing from nintendo should be a major business strategy shake up. They should be making moves to attract and acquire western studios to fill out the gaps in their existing line-up. In short they should behave more like sony whose strategy of developer acquisitions has allowed them to cater to the shift in popularity from Japanese games to western games. I hope they realise this, but realistically I don't see this happening any time soon.
Whoever disagrees, would...
The EA issue aside, I agree with the point the article makes. Nintendo do need a major foundations shake-up. Sony have been adaptable to changing times because their business model is primarily about acquisitions (I can't remember the last truly in-house Sony-developed game I played). Nintendo need to look out into the wider world and at their competition to have any hope of recapturing their audience.
@Death
actually I'd go further than that, I think it shows a lack of humility. You shouldn't need to shout it out loud.
P.S Don't worry about the disagrees, you can't expect sony-ites to blindly support the huge multinational, multi-billion dollar corporation and understand dictionary definitions at the same time!
'there's a slightly perceptible lag between button presses and the corresponding action onscreen, but we still managed to slay numerous enemies in God of War's brutal style without it being a problem'
Slightly worried about this, after all this is a closed network demonstration, out in the wild it could be much worse.
Uh, Fire sprite are an Independant studio formed by former members of the now defunct studio Liverpool/psygnosis . The work they did for sony japan was 'gun for hire' work.
So if you bend all of the information at your disposal to your purpose you can make anything seem successful, even the vita, that's your point, right? In all seriousness though reading your meandering and far too often poorly structured commentary/point of view, your sony defence seems to involve not talking directly about the vita, but rather around it and by brushing away the 3ds''s comparative success. Frankly you couldn't be more biased, I could see your fanboy after rea...
The 2 issues for nintendo with the wiiu are firstly too many people still think it's an add-on for the wii. the second and probably biggest problem is what separates it from Sony and Microsft. Sony is especially good at acquiring new games and developers, indeed their games division was built on this behaviour, which has always been successful for them, conversely nintendo is a games company through and through, they do more games in-house than any other hardware company! The problem i...
Not expecting anything earth-shattering, ninty has yet to impress, or excite me this gen.
I do enjoy hearing the news that there will, eventually be some news /s
It's probably more to do with the anaemic launch lineup, not to say it isn't a decent game cause it isn't bad, but I think it's relative success is more to do with circumstance than anything else.
For me the first level's biggest issue is the layout, if you happen to find yourself at ground level and not on a raised platform when enemies suddenly spawn (or you simply can't see them) You find yourself in a certain death situation and even when you are on one of the raised platforms you can still be surprised by unseen enemies. For me the difficulty wasn't the issue, but the enemy spawning and the level design/layout, it made it a grind, a chore,not entertaining/enjoyable. ...
When Nintendo is having a hard time they often produce their best games. Gamecube had a great software line up, some of my all-time favourite games were on that system. Converesely a successful games company almost always gets complacent and starts doing stupid things, taking their fans/install base for granted, just Look at the Wii. PS3 started off badly, but Sony turned that around by releasing some of the best exclusives this gen. What I'm saying is I often find a games company creates...
I'm curious though, how does one go about making a game that hits the 7-8 mark? It's like you're saying someone didn't want them to or didn't expect them to hit certain targets, which seems a fairly counter-productive way to make games! I'm inferring from your comment that someone, presumably sony, wanted the to deliver inferior product to meet deadline, which for me is a very sad state of affairs indeed!
Which is fine, but actively aiming for average is utterly bizarre! Like they didn't want to bother making a really good, must-play game.
It's touch wood in the UK, yes it sounds dirty, but imagine what we think when Americans talk about bouncy shags?
I don't think anyone disagrees with the idea of games bringing greater variety in protagonists, but I think it should be the developers choice ultimately. Also I can't help but wonder what choosing a character's sexual orientation would bring to the gaming experience, it never really bothered me before.
@above
Again you're suggesting a correlation between prevalence of violence in video games and violence in society. This is a game review, discussions and prepositions about violence in media and their alleged affect on society belongs somewhere else. You obviously have a grievance with people in the UK and people with a problem with US gun control laws, I suggest you find a more appropriate outlet/soapbox to voice your issues.
"they say Americans play too many shooters"
so Americans don't play too many shooters, how many do they play then?
"they talk crap about our gun laws yet they buy up games like Call of Duty like crack!"
You're suggesting enjoying FPS games is the same as being able to own real guns?
Weird post!
I know right! They need to find a way to attract a wider audience. I've been saying it a lot lately, but they need to look at what Sony does I.e. acquire some western studios.
