Half Life 2 is still one of my all time favorite games, such a shame they just decided to ditch it like they did, portal is cool and all but it was no replacement.
To be honest I don't know why they didn't just make Half Life 3 and have the elements that portal had, adding a entirely new puzzle element to an already great series, instead they just scrapped it altogether.

It is a mix between both and it has been quoted many times, the developers have said they wanted a balance between both simulator and arcade racer.

Well some do on PC and by some I mean very few but you are right in that it is still very rare. So many people probably haven't seen a game that uses that much because their really aren't that many that do require over 8GB of RAM.
