The PS2 was heavily moded too, another reason why the PS3 isn't selling as fast as the PS2 plus the price.

when GT3(2001) came out there was no where near 120mill ps2 users(2000 releae date) [10.61 mill sales ending FY 2001 march 31st)
GT3 14.89 mill as of 2008
GT4 came out in end of 2004/ early 2005
