As someone who is happily married to a girl gamer who is hardcore enough to import games and system directly from Japan, I have to say this article completely misses one key fact.

It acts like Girl Gamers are not still females.

Just like getting any other girl, you have to show that you have more to you than just being a sofa sitting gamer bum. You need to find something that you can excel at that will take you outside of the house so that can also attract the i...

Trying to figure that one out. Will update the story if I can.

Only thing I can come up with is Time Splitters.

Counter to many comments here, Sony DOES report earnings in USD in addtion to YEN.

From their earnings report on Page 4 - Paragraph 3.

"An operating loss of Y58.8 billion ($654 million) was recorded, a deterioration of Y18.2 billion year-on-year, mainly due to a deterioration in profitability in VAIO PCs and the game business."

Edit: This is from Sony's Game Division section of their earnings report. So yes, Sony's Game division also r...

The ZunePass lets you download "most music" and use it for as long as you remain a subscriber. Once you cancel, the non-purchased music goes away.

The cool bit is that each month you get 10 "credits" to buy up to 10 individual songs at no additional charge if you are a ZunePass subscriber. So in essence, you get the ZunePass subscripition for just $5 a month if you use all 10 credits each month.

In regards to HD Radio question, it still has ...

I was at Microsoft back during the early development of Xbox and Halo. During what they called "Deep Gameplay Testing" a lot of people internal to Microsoft didn't even like Halo.

Most of those people sat down in the early usability studies with just the single player and complained left and right about lack of keyboard and mouse. They never returned.

A small group of us loved it and picked up on the controls very quickly. Over the following two mont...

Just listened to all the QA. The information contained in the article above was not mentioned at all in the QA from what I heard.

The closest to mentioning it was in Question #3, and even there they didn't talk about it.

Microsoft is taking the approach that a browser, while it would provide a lot of sought after functionality, does not provide the best experience for accessing said functionality.

For example, a browser would enable users to access and stream Netflix on the Xbox360, but it would not provide the same seemless integration into the NXE experience and provide the Party support.

The same can be said for things like Facebook and Twitter. While you can access both thro...

In regards to the the $50 Million deal for DLC with R*, that was a loan to cover development costs. MS will receive all sales proceeds until such time as the $50 Million is paid back at which time profits will transition to R*. So, really, MS didn't spend anything there, just loaned them money.

In regards to games going multiplat, a lot of that is the result of MS having a larger marketshare than Sony, over 2:1, in the largest gaming market (the US). Most companies just want...

Seriously, generation is not determined by personal preference which is all you are stating. Generation is determined primarily by release date in relation to other products and secondarily by technological advancement.

You have also misquoted me, again. I actually said the Wii can be considered a next-gen (ie current gen) console regardless of it's older graphics due to its introduction of a new generation control system as well as digital distibution of games in the form of...

I did not say that the PS3 had NO good looking titles till 09, what I said was nothing that could better Gears of War till 2 years (aka Holiday 2008).

Sorry, but heavenly sword, uncharted, and Lair can at best be described as matching Gears of War. Though, all three are extremely different titles with extremely different issues they had to resolve from a graphical and gameplay perspective that affects graphical output potential.

Take Lair. Very pretty, but suff...

You are doing a disservice to PS3 fans by actively claiming that the Xbox360 is not a console of this generation.

Yes, several PS3 games do look better than Xbox360 games, but the fact is that the vast majority of games, even exclusives on each system, are comparible in graphical quality and fidelity.

My question would be, would you argue that the Xbox was "Next Gen" compared with the PS2? Almost no PS2 games competed graphically with even the crappies...

Considering that for the first two years of the PS3, most of its games looked worse than Xbox360 titles and nothing on it looked better than Gears of War, it is really hard and painful to argue that the Xbox360 is last generation.

Now, yes, several PS3 titles do look better than pretty much all 360 titles, but those are few and far between and the difference is negligable.

PS3 does have a more advanced drive, but 360 has a more advanced online service. At best, ...

To start, the author of the article takes Microsoft's earnings information completely out of context.

If the other had bothered to perform his research into MS's earnings statements, he would have discovered that the Xbox360 and related products are actually doing quite well and that the loss in E&D and primarily be attributed to Headcount increases in the Windows Mobile Device Platform group.

In addition, Microsoft calls out decreased costs of revenue (hence...

One thing most people seem to be missing is that with the Zune service coming you can either Stream or Download. While streaming is nice, if you don't have a connection speed fast enough to handle it, you can still download the videos.

Couple of other points, Quality has nothing to do with Blu-Ray itself. Quality is solely based on the Video Codec that is utilized.

In the case of Blu-Ray you get a mixture of MPEG2, MPEG4, and VC1. All 3 can handle 1080p and ba...

Lets say that the rumored cost of manufacturing of the PS3 is true. This would put the cost at approximately $435.

Retailers currently purchase a PS3 from Sony to stock on shelves for approximately $368.

That is a loss for Sony of roughly $67 per unit.

If Sony cuts the price to $350, the cost to retailers will drop to $322 give or take. That would put their losses per unit to roughly $113 per unit.

The popular idea that just releas...

I would expect more like Crackdown sales. New openworld IP with popular game's Multiplayer Beta bundled. Both the PS3 and 360 having similar (just over 8 Million) userbase in US at time of release.

Crackdown sold about roughly 300,000 units in the same time as inFamous sold 176k.

You do realize that you can generate a constant IR image that can blanket a room and then be watched by an IR camera.

I don't know what they are doing, but assuming they are using IR to acquire significant information, I could see them using it to get basically a 3D model of the entire room and then from that they could determine human location seperate from everything else.

Note, stuff like Sony's EyeToy had a horrible time differentiating between people and obj...

You can disagree because you reject the tradeoff represented, not just because you would rather see more ads than games.

In the real world that tradeoff does not exist. Most companies do more advertising to make more money, not less money.

If increased advertising did not result in enough extra revenue to offset the costs of the advertising and provide additional profit, they wouldn't do it in the first place.

Microsoft spent $40 Million advertisi...
