You should seriously check out Breath of Death 7 and Cthulhu Saves the World.

@MintBerryCrunch

Just for note, you can dress up your avatar as Master Chief, any of the noble 6, Gears of War characters (including Locusts), Ezio or Altair from Assassin's Creed, and many more.

The problem with logic like this is that it ignores that there is actually a limited amount of talent in the industry that can successfully pump out AAA titles. Paying $50 Million for a title can help it get the talent, but there is no way to even remotely guarentee that paying $100 Million to build two new studios from scratch to pump out two AAA titles will actually achieve the goal.

Let's take a slightly different perspective. Microsoft spends about $8 Billion per ...

You are dealing with two very different concepts here. 2.4Ghz in the case of the wireless controllers is the frequency at which they transmit, not the data rate.

When dealing with the camera, the 30hz is dealing with refresh rate per second, or in this case, 30 captured frames per second.

What you seem to be trying to coralate both of them to is processor speed, which is also usually listed as hz. Like a 3.0Ghz AMD or Intel processor.

For those interested, here is the breakdown of the 8 features with regards to whether you need a Gold subscription or not to access them.

1. Improved voice quality (Gold)

Party Chat requires a Gold subsciption to access.

2. Improved experience for changing your Gamertag (Free)

Gamertags are useful to both Gold and Free users. Changing your Gamertag still costs $8.

3. Streamlined in-dashboard virtua...

One problem with this article is that it primarily focused on interviewing XBLA indie developers. Most of these guys code directly to the 360 using the XDK.

The thing that Microsoft said was "coming soon" is XNA support for Kinect. This would enable people with an XNA creator's club license to submit titles that use Kinect directly to the Xbox Live Indie Games channel. This is completely seperate from XBLA and has no official Microsoft certification process...

I have found quite a few great games in the indie library. Frankly one of the best JRPG like games I have played this generation is in there. It's called Breath of Death 7: The beginning.

Beyond this, NextWar is a great tower defense game and SoulCaster is just an amazing game in its own right.

I would highly recommend people pick up all 3 of those.

My next purchase from Indie games is probably going to be Chuthulu Saves the World...

The last cake was mine :)

I paid Mike's Amazing Cakes to make it and delivery it to Bungie with my resume about a year ago. Did not end up getting the job, but it did apparently leave an impression.

I think he was mainly trying to refer to the concept of achievements across all games and the ability to compare them independant of being in the game.

Yet another reason why this article is found lacking from a journalistic perspective.

Overall agree, but a couple corrections.

3rd parties chose Sony over the Gamecube for more reasons than just the N64s failures.

The GameCube had a royalty about $4 - $6 higher than the PS2 and had a slightly higher production cost associated with making the disc.

They also had a much more complicated and uncertain certification process that could stop completed games from actually releasing on the system. This is a huge disencentive ...

This article just scratches the surface of the changes MS brought to the industry. Some of the changes, as hinted at in earlier comments, are still open for debate and we probably will not know if they are a net negative or positive impact for many years to come.

- Easier development

MS brought a slew of development tools and a mentality that consoles should not require developers to have to re-learn everything every few years. In addition, tools beyond...

I have to wonder when the definition of hardcore gamer changed.

Back when I was growing up, hardcore described the gamers that wanted to try out everything there was to do from a gaming perspective. We were the ones making the long distance trecks to far off arcades to try new gaming systems involving the use of pods, helmets, full cockpits, and even in person things like lasertag.

Hardcore gamers wanted to try every possible gaming experience there was....

Actually, Microsoft almost always lets active beta participants keep the hardware and software that was provided as part of the beta test. If you were an NDA covered beta tester for Windows from version 95OSR2 through 7 you even got a free boxed copy sent to your house at release.

If you do not participate in the beta at all (aka do not use Kinect) I could see MS requesting the device back. But if you use it in accordance with the agreement, I would not be surprised if th...

Unfortunately, your comment shows a lack of understanding of modern audio software and technology.

One of the things mentioned in the article and utilized by multiple software and hardware products is noise cancellation and also a system which knows what audio is being output by a device so that it does not take the output as input, it cancels that out as well.

Sony even implemented similar technology into the PS3eye. While this technology is not perfect...

And Microsoft has been doing operating systems for 30 years and had 40% of the smartphone market. Their engineers and leadership both stated that the iPhone and iPad would not succeed.

Yet here we are with both making Microsoft look silly.

I am not saying that Kinect will do the same, but just because a person or group of people have a lot of experience with a technology does not also imply that they have the only ideas in that space or always know what ...

Difference is that:

The Xbox360 reserves just 32MB of ram and manages to pull off multi-user login, cross game party chat, and custom soundtracks.

The PS3 reserves 56MB of ram (down from 90MB at launch) and does not support any of these much requested features.

When I look at what happened here, I think the bigger concern is how this impacted disc based offline gaming to the degree that it did.

Right now, if I wanted, I could hook up my NES and have a go at Zelda or my PSone and enjoy playing FFVII again. I don't have to worry about my ability to play games I purchased even if the platforms themselves are no longer supported.

What is frightening about the PS3 failure from yesterday is how it impacted the ability to pla...
