No, every new generation console released has had exclusives that take advantage of the hardware until now.
People have spread this rumor for every Xbox since the very first one, they even said it about the X even though it was just an xbox one.

There is a difference between scaling graphics and using the Zen CPU to add more enemies or NPC's or making the AI react more intelligently and having more realistic physics or using the SSD to make larger worlds and remove loading zones by being able to process textures directly from the SSD.
Nice, resorting to insults?
All your talking about is graphical scaling, do you not understand that there are other aspects to game development than just graphics?

"Stagnant would be better than regressing back to zero, would it not?"
NO.
.
That's what console generations are. You move on to better hardware that allows you to make games that you couldn't with the older hardware. That is the WHOLE POINT of new generations.
"Same rationale I just explained appeals to 3rd parties. Remember Ubisoft holding off games early due to low install bases? T...
I really liked Astral Chain, I was disappointed to see it get so little recognition.
I was surprised how brutal Days Gone was with decapitations and things. If they step it up from that... ouch.
I think Sony first party will focus on PS5.
"You limit the number of characters on screen. Same with AI."
Then it's not even the same game....
A BR with 1000 people is not the same game as BR with 100 people. A city with a huge map populated with a thosand NPC's is not the same as a small map with 100 NPC's. Quit kidding yourself get real.
You say use your common sense, but I am the one using common sense your the one who is just trying to defend Microsoft...
If Sony is smart as late as possible. Let Microsoft continue to say things like "we're not making next gen games" and counter what they say as much as possible.
Next gen decided, that's all I need to hear.
What about consumers who buy a next gen console and want actual next gen games and not Skyrim remaster remastered because that's all the base console can handle?
Yes, I think Sony first party games will take full advantage of the new hardware.

No, you can make a game build for a base xbox run on on an x with better graphics. You CAN"T make a game with super advanced ai or a 1000 enemies built for a next gen console with Ryzen run on a old base Jaguar.
Quit trying to twist the truth to defend Microsoft, if your fine with your new games tied to the base xbox so be it thats your choice, but quit trying to pretend that it's not going to hold things back.
Sophisticated_Chap your just making excuses and deflecting to Sony.
If two days ago someone had asked you what you looked forward too about next gen you would have said exactly what i am saying, now your the one who has changed because your favorite console manufacturer has said they aren't actually going to jump to next gen.
There are so many of you guys who just days ago were excited about better AI and and taking advantage of SSD who just LITERALLY...
No, you don't get it, AI and SSD are limited on PC due to older hardware. It's why all games don't use ray-tracing and games still have loading sections and AI hasn't improved for a decade. These new console had the potential to do things PC couldn't do.
The only thing that will be upgraded from the generation switch will be graphics. Everything else is being hamstrung by old hardware.
Face it, the new xbox is just an upgraded xbox o...
Like we continue to hear from devs, they'll scale down, not scale up.
If their not scaling up that means they are programming for the lowest option. Dont you see what your saying is they aren't going to fully utilize the new hardware because they have to be able to scale down to the lowest hardware instead of being able to scale up into a new generation.
I'm sorry, I wanted next gen to actually be next gen. I wanted the SSD to provide large seamless worlds like Phil was talking about I wanted them to make use of the 4x the cpu power of Zen to transition into advanced AI and physics ect,
I wanted next gen, not another upgraded xbox one.
Compare that to your historical methods where we'd only get to play it if we shelled out $100's for the new system and $60 for the title.
Right, so why buy the new console?
"Even if you're only mildly familiar with the PC space, you'll see why this approach is preferable to gamers and devs alike. "
So just stick with PC?
Obscure_Observer
"Are you saying that "true next gen" game developement for the PS5 started back at 2015-2016?"
There were rumors of PS5 dev kits way back in 2017. So yes, it's definitely possible that PS5 games have been in development for 3+ years.
And this choice isn't being made by Microsoft for developmental reasons it's because their priority isn't to sell consoles it's to sell gamepass subs...
