For me, the situations spelled out in this piece are, while plausible, unlikely to occur in the short-term, and most likely I'll have access to my games through other means when companies go buh-bye, or I'll be dead and playing Sonic 2 in heaven/Sonic 3 in hell.

People don't like achievements because they don't like the way it affects their own playing of games. It exposes their need to compete, to be the best. At the end of the day, you can ignore them if you want to. If you can't, well that's not Microsoft's fault.
