What did Geohot do wrong? He simply got the root keys of the PS3. He didn't pirate anything or gain anything from it. People should be allowed to mod their own property anyway. If Geohot goes down, hackers will respond with fury and pirate PS3 games just for vengeance. So Sony loses here either way. I like Sony a lot more than M$ and don't agree with piracy but the fact is; Geohot didn't do anything wrong.
OMG if this true, Nintendo really are stupid. I know it will raise hardware sales but they will ultimately lose out.
Did it occur to people that some hackers might just mess with the game for fun instead of trying to cheat?
Sure downloading free stuff is illegal but its so easy to avoid getting caught. PSN doesn't matter a damn. Fact is, pirates can buy another console and still save money by getting offline games for free. Most games have most of their value offline anyway. Though also expect hackers to formulate ways of avoidng detection. Its easy to play on xbox live with a modded dvd drive without being detected apparently so what's to stop hackers here?
Exactly, when I say Wikileaks, I mean its supporters which a decent proprtion of are hackers. Geohot didn't fck up in the hacker's eyes. He is after igniting a fire that will burn for a long time to come and will burn a lot of software sales for Sony and save a lot of money for hackers.
Sony should have acted. Its already here. Geohot warned of his return. Soon after the PS3 was jailbroken, the sons of hacking would deliver the final blow. They did not want to believe, believe it even existed but when the truth dawned, it dawns in piracy! But there's one thing they fear; in their tongue "annihilation", BAN HAMMER!
Sony will start banning console ids pretty soon which are running cfw. Though hackers coud use two id number (one they get from a friend or something) and play offline with cfw with one id and online with normal cfw with the other id. This would save them from buying a second console. Hackers will try to come up with ways to hide the cfw from Sony's checks. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
Who cares about Failoverflow? The firmware is already here. The PS3 has been compromised and hackers and pirates will have a field day. As Scientology learned from Anonymous and the US learned from Wikileaks, don't fck with hackers!
Where did Geohot try to make money from this? I don't condone piracy but modding your console (your own property that you purchased) is fine. Sure, whoever leaked/stole the root key should be punished but where is there the evidence that Geohot or fairoverflow did it? It doesn't matter now though. We can all put homebrew on our PS3s. Its too late.
You make zero sense. Firstly, Sony can't put code on discs to disable consoles because there is nothing illegal about modding a console so Sony would have no right to disable a modded console just because a retail disc has been put in it. Even if that was the case, the iso could be put onto a computer and the code could be edited out. There is nothing that hackers can't get around. Games can not require you to sign in to PSN to play. Why? Because not every PS3 owner has access to broa...
If you look at the 360's hacking history, hackers will stop at nothing. A lot of them just hack for the fun of it. Sony cannot beat them, they can only slow them down and make life difficult for them. Unfortunately for Sony, the PS3 is going to lose a huge amount of software sales. Hardware sales will rise but won't offset the losses.
It would be too awkward for hackers to use homebrew online because it would be easily detectable by Sony. Though they can just do what is being done with hombrew on the xbox, buy a second console and use one for online and one for offline. That way hackers will get offline games free and can earn the offline trophies. They can just switch their profiles between consoles. Lets face it, most games have their main value offline anyway. Plus there is the ability to store every game on a 1tb hard ...
I haven't played Res 2 yet but played Res 1 and I didn't like the weapon wheel because I think players should be limited to three weapons at max, two large and a pistol. Res 1 was a great game but was boring for the first quarter of the game and then was a lot better. The Res 3 video looks amazing though and I've high hopes for this game.
Level scaling is fine if done correctly. Firstly, Elder Scrolls is a completely open game so it is important players can do most side-quests in any order they want to. Seeing as different side-quests will have enemies of different difficulties, this openness wouldn't be possible without level scaling. Level scaling enables a game to be challenging no matter the player's level against enemies at the higher end of the difficulty scale. This doesn't mean leveling is useless. Harder e...
No that was funny lol.
Piracy can be good in certain cases. For example, Activision are a greedy company that have treated PS3 gamers like crap. This hack gives PS3 gamers the ability to get future COD games for free. Even if you hate COD, stealing from Kottick feels good. Of course, a lot of gamers will pirate every game which is a bad thing. Devs who've worked hard on their games deserve the money, especially in this economic climate.
The only thing I'm not happy about is the level scaling. Everything else sounds awesome. I don't mind level scaling that much if it isn't present to the extent that leveling up barely gives the character any power. I prefer if some areas in the game have enemies that you can murder easily on higher levels and other places have very challenging enemies who will kick your ass on lower levels. That brings a further uniqueness to each area while giving the player more incentive to lev...
The PS3 is now the most hackable console on the market. Had we been told this a year ago, we wouldn't have believed it. For those who dislike the fact that the PS3 can be hacked, the worst is yet to come! I love the PS3 but I also love a good hack. If you think I'm the bad guy? Well then... Muwahahahahahahahaha victory will be mine!
Bethesda are making it. Thus, it will be successful. Enough said.
Gain trophies with offline hacked console and then switch profile to online console. Simple as that. Sony can do nothing unless they only allow trophies to be earned while online which is nonsense since people who've no access to broadband wouldn't be able to earn trophies. They could put checks on the discs but they can be edited out on a computer. So yeah, its real. Its damn real!
