There is always someone crying about these numbers in every article. Even if they had real time numbers your console would still be in last place. Either look into what estimates are and how NPD is just an estimate as well though a bigger one.
Tech wise it was the weakest console. Xbox was the most powerful, followed by GC then the PS2.

Along with SMG, SMG2, RE, Punch Out, Metroid, Zelda, Final Fantasy, NMH, NMH2, Monster Hunter, and again many more on the Wii, that I am not a core gamer?

Many games come with a End User Licensing Agreement which pretty much says you do not own the software just the right to use it and the company at any time it chooses to can stop supporting the game or require that you destroy your copy if they so decide.
