Honestly Vita needs to do a lot more before it becomes relevant in the gaming landscape, and I love the device. Second or third place in Japan, and dead last in every other region is not exactly what I would call "relevant".
Sony basically dropped all first party support of Vita, and is on record saying they see it more of a PS4 peripheral than its own handheld. That is why I think such a great device has not spread more.
VR has no actual gaming potential. Demos? Yes, Full game experiences? Sorry that is not going to take over. As a niche option maybe.
Sony is doing the smart thing though, they are not the ones who are going to be pushing it forward if they cant think of any good ideas, indies likely have the time. That is a good move.
FYI, VR is not better gaming immersion.

Honestly I do not see it, it feels like things are getting worse in Japan in terms of the distaste for consoles (PS4 and Wii U are not really lighting the world on fire, PS4 is killing it in the West).
I hope things do change because Japan is capable of a lot more than social games (same to the West).

In 2013 Nintendo sold the most software and hardware globally. Sony lost more money than Nintendo or MS. Sony software sales were down also in 2013. And in 2014, they are seeing some difficulties with departures, closures, and cancellations.

It is not a coincidence. Sony is going through financial troubles.
Nintendo is going to be around a lot longer than Microsoft or Sony when it comes to gaming.
Sony and Microsoft are cutting jobs, cancelling games, closing studios and generally are in dissarray.
Even if Nintendo does not have the most third party support (they have tons still, that is a trolling lie, I include indies as support), they are actually growing and generally doing better as a company.

Nintendo admitted those games were not properly emulated. They have said on 3DS they cannot add save states, in game pausing, ect
GBA games cannot be emulated the right way.

^ Wow so many idiots who have no clue how emulation works. There are perfectly good reasons why GBA games can never come to 3DS.
Beyond sold over 1 million, did not make profit so unit sales are irrelevant.
GT games are also money sucks.
Studios do not get restructured if they are successful and consistently produce profit.
This is why Naughty Dog has been around for 20 years.
