Nintendo is a generation behind both Sony and Microsoft. Wii was slightly more powerful than the XBox. The Wii U will be slightly more powerful than the PS3 and include a Tablet controller that doubles the price of the Wii U.

Let's see one main GTA game per generation. GTA 3 was followed by two episodes: GTA: VC and GTA SA that utilised the same graphics engine of GTA 3. GTA IV was followed by two episodes this generation.

It has taken 5.5 years for the PS3 to erase 4 of the 6 million lead the X360 started with a 1 year head start over the PS3. Despite PS3 having a much longer list of exclusive games X360 has done very well to be competitive with the much more established Playstation brand.
The X360 apparently cheated and its extra 6 million sales sold before the PS3 launched should not be counted.

If either of my PS3 and X360 broke down on the eve of the next generation I would seriously wait until next generation and shell out a little bit more money for a system that can play this generation and next generation console games.
