I love Skate and would much rather play that than that other skateboarding franchise. I'm 100% in favor of a more realistic snowboarding game, but I don't want it to be SSX, a game whose appeal lies in it's arcade-style and "I can't believe I'm doing this!" moments.
The trailer for this looked so good. Now, I'm just hoping it feels like previous SSX games, and the Skate-like control scheme turns out to be just a rumor.
I'm really not trying to be a dick or start an argument with this, but would it be any better or worse if it had been a person of another race stealing stuff? I do agree that this scumbag should rot in jail, because stealing from sick kids is absolutely disgusting.
If you think that's high, Planet XBox gave it a 8/10.
Activision is making the right decision in marketing these games to kids, because with the direction the series has moved in, there's nothing to appeal to anyone who's been playing for a while or has hit their teens. Even then, I'd be annoyed at having to spend so much money for a peripheral the kid can use with only TH games. I'll stick with Skate.
For real? I haven't played FF XIII, so I can't comment on it, although I understand why others don't find it up to par. What I played of 4 Heroes of Light was incredibly enjoyable, as were the majority of FF games. Plus, Deus Ex: Human Revolution looks promising. Maybe they're not pushing out perfect titles the way they used to, but nobody's on 100% of the time, and it's far from a "huge disaster."
Agreed. I feel like Skate came along with a more realistic experience and Activision felt they had to one-up it by letting you play on a "realistic" skateboard, in a very unrealistic game. Skateboarding has become mainstream enough that there's room for both games because they're drastically different, as long as TH developers can realize that concept still appeals to young/casual gamers without having to resort to gimmicks.
Skate is definitely more appealing to me than Tony Hawk games have been, but taking the gameplay of Skate and sticking in the next TH game isn't the way to go. It will just make the series look like an imitation. Activision admits they are marketing Shred to kids, who will be wowed by the lack of realism and the fact they're playing on a skateboard peripheral. Tony Hawk can still be relevant, just not to the same audience as when THPS first came out.
Never got into WoW, but Cataclysm sounds fun and I can see why people are so stoked for it. Archaeology sounds sweet!
Agreed. It's a unique idea, I'll give them that, but sadly one that forces me to abandon any knowledge of world affairs or sensibility I may have. Ah well, I guess unrealistic scenarios are part of the appeal of games anyway.
They shouldn't be worried about the controversy. The 'they're on our land!' concept is what's going to sell copies amidst a ton of other generic FPS titles that nobody could care about.
Really? Because I'd say they ended a bit before that. I found AoD ridiculous.
Know it doesn't have the TR name attached, but I really enjoyed Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. It was an unexpected departure for a character that had gotten stale, but it worked.
I'm all about the idea of Skate on the slopes, but a new SSX is NOT the game to try it with. The appeal of SSX is in the arcadey, over the top vibe, so it almost seems to be doing fans who've been awaiting a new game a disservice to muck it up by changing the control scheme and feel so drastically.
I see where you're coming from, and agree that the 'silence is golden' philosophy has worked very well for games that have used it (ie; Limbo, Flower). The problem is, lack of dialogue is a feature that makes these games unique and gives them a distinctive feel. If we start seeing more games that cut the dialogue, what was a novel concept risks becoming overused and trite. I would like to see much better voice acting in games though, since many times it's so over-the-top it...
Yes, it's possible to make a game that tops CoD in terms of quality, but getting anywhere near the number of sales is a different story. People tend to be creatures of habit, and those who get pumped for every installment of CoD will continue to do so because they're already familiar with the brand and have bought into all the hype that goes along with it. Definitely not knocking CoD, the franchise has had some great games, but even if better FPSs were to come along (personally, I'...
Agreed. In addition to being scary as hell, hospital stays are the most boring, tedious thing when you're a kid. Giving these kids something to keep busy and take their mind off what they're going through is a great thing to do. Definitely want to make a donation this holiday season.
@visualb - If you're a Batman fan, play AA as soon as you can. In addition to being a fun game that even a casual fan can enjoy, there's all kinds of details packed in that seasoned readers of the comics will pick up on and love. You can tell it was made by people who know their stuff and love the character, not just looking to cash in on the spike in popularity after the last two movies.
I always want to give the benefit of the doubt and assume most gamers aren't the regressed man-children we're often made out to be, but the comments on articles like this prove me wrong time after time. "Hahaha boobs! Hehehe, farts!"
We're a long way off from this happening on consoles, at least in the US. Violence in games gets a bad enough rap, and the "think of the children!" mentality that extremely vocal and influential groups of society possess leaves sex in games a taboo subject, even though it's usually as tame as anything that can be seen on late night Cinemax. I'm all for these games being allowed to be made in the name of freedom of expression, but not only are developers not going to make...
I haven't spent a ton of time in Home, but I do see the appeal of having a place to play mini-games, meet people who play the same games you do, and watch content designed for Home. Plus, it's free to use the service, so I can't complain. What I don't get though are people who spend money buying outfits for their avatar and virtual items that are mostly useless. Spending real world money on virtual items to customize a virtual person is a concept I can't wrap my head aroun...
