As much of a good idea it is, I can't see it taking off. Not Steam Machines in general, but this design.

Removing the heatsink from a graphics card and relying on a laptop style cooling kit is not the most creative thinking.

I'm delaying my upgrade and just going to buy a top tier Steam Machine. Having such a small form factor PC I can just pick it up and take it to my friends house. Dual boot Windows 7, play any non-steam games like LoL, and anything I've got on origin / battle net / gog / emulators

Agreed. Valve make the best games and they care about their customers. Imagine right now, we would be sitting on "Half Life 4: Episode 4: Antlions"

Or some shit. They call it Valve Time for a reason :)

The guy who made this article clearly hasn't the foggiest

You're right to some degree. I contradict myself. Practically everything you see on the Steam Machines are already being used by the public prior to day one release.

The hardware has been out a while. All SteamOS features are or, about to be in beta. [EDIT: Steam Machines &] Steam Controllers are going to be shipped out to the lucky 300 beta participants.

The CAD files for Valves own Steam Machine are going to be released to the public so they can mod...

Its not a console!

It's not a replacement for Keyboard / Mouse; it's an alternative.

SteamOS is just Steams Big Picture mode, ontop of Linux.

No exclusives, but will work on SteamOS as well as Steam for Windows/OSX/Linux.

Finally, the Steam's Steam Machines were revealed almost a month ago. iBuyPower just revealed their take of the Steam Machine.

I can guarantee there will be no day one failures l...

Its no longer day one, so they must be destroyed ;)

Reading their announcement on the Steam InHome streaming group, there are two statements that stuck out for me.

1. Wireless sucks
2. Go Gigabit

I wouldn't consider using wireless for anything else other than my phone/tablet. Need to buy some cat6 and upgrade my router/switch :(

Are you aware that the 780ti's are available now?

"Next-gen"

Engadget confirmed SteamOS is just straight to boot Steam Big Picture. Would recommend dual booting SteamOS along side Windows

Apple isn't a PC ;)

-no hackers: Just as many hackers on console than pc.

-patches are easier: Steam updates games as soon as devs push them.

-community: Steam Community (No 12 year olds :))

-couch: SteamOS / Big Picture

-PC gaming isn't as easy as consoles: We don't need autoaim (Hand holding)

-Downgrade your PC to play older games: Lol

-Random crashes: Happens on both platforms

I was there when his twitch stream blew up. Much respect to the guy.

Its not plugged in to demonstrate the dimensions of the case all that power is going to be stored in. You can buy PCI bridges that can make this a possibility

I think YouTube streamed Worlds too. I remember LCS EU being pretty unstable though :(

Would be cool if they could get the tournaments televised as well as streamed online

He means the devs would rather make more money than open up to the PC community
