Steam Machines are just small form factor PCs running a free open operating system. If people don't feel confident in building a PC themselves they can pick one of the many pre builds on the Steam Store... or even buy a prebuild that isn't labelled a "Steam Machine" and just install SteamOS onto it. To answer your question though, I don't think they'll be "super" successful but it will open console gamer's eyes to the sheer amount of freedom they could ...
SteamOS is just Steam Big Picture mode on a Linux operating system. Once you back out of it you can browse the web, use it as a media center, word process or anything a PC can do really.
It baffles me why people say "Why buy a Steam Machine when I can buy a PC?" but they also say "Why buy a PC when I can buy a console?"... Not implying you're one of these folk but I have seen people say that

When I first started getting into PC gaming, around 2003, I always thought bigger cases were better. Now I prefer the small form factor PCs. If you prefer mobility then smaller cases do a much better job. I currently have a BitFenix Prodigy and I still want to cram the contents into something smaller. If Valve brought those earlier prototype Steam Machine cases out, I'd snap one up in an instant.
You should never listen to IGN though :)
Remember, you don't even need to use SteamOS aka Big Picture mode to play games. Simply back out of it and you can simply access the likes of good old games, humble bundle, dosbox and even console emulators.
I wish they released the prototype Steam Machine case. Currently running a BitFenix Prodigy and although it is a nice size to move around, something of that form-factor would be amazing
Can't wait for the controller to release. I'm hoping the new "living room devices" are similar to the Razer Forge streaming devices. Would love a little box that can be used for Steam In-home Streaming
@Clunkyd - Have you checked Humble Bundle at all? At the moment you can buy the Square Enix bundle from $1 - $15 and get 3 - 10 games, depending on how much you're willing to pay
Streaming is useless because the main argument console gamers have over PC is that "couch gaming" is a better experience"... so why sit at your PC?
And cross-platform MP... MS already learnt that average PC gamers smashed the backdoors off of intermediate-pro console gamers when they tried out shadowrun, and Valve with CSGO.
Welcome to Summoners Reef
They're the hardest item to unbox. Pure cosmetic. But knives sell on the Steam Market for £80-£400 depending on model, finish, rarity and item quality.
Also a lot of the skins are submitted by the community. So they get a nice cut of the profits
Shame it's not an RPG, it's a dungeon crawler. Bigger numbers help progression.
Skill runes determined what type of geared helped bolster damage output
You say "no challenge" but immediately say "no movement and attacking"
It's not that graphic... maybe if the graphics were like GTAV then I'd understand, but its original GTA graphics so all I see is pixels flying around

How is Sunset Overdrive btw lol
It's a good thing PCs are backwards compatible and forever evolving. It's great having 20 year old games, from redundant platforms, running on a month old rig :)
They didn't even say anything negative, why are you bashing them?
On topic: I don't see the problem with this. It is disabled by default and programs like xsplit, evolve an OBS give you the option to add screen-regions like, your whole desktop.
Double post ¬_¬
Agreed the story was pretty terrible, but the gameplay and multiplayer was amazing
