I have zero problem with their preferences, but the name invokes that they're some kind of under-age hookup forum. Why not GAYS UNITE? or GAY PRYDE? But I can see why people are (excuse the poor pun) touchy/feely about "boys" being in the name.
tl;dr it's not "gay" in the name that people have a problem with, its "boys" (read: children) in conjunction with sexual preference.

People need to relax and basically tune Kojima out when he makes very contextual statements about how and when the story and world will blossom.

There's enough "evidence" across both gears and saga that they SHOULD be connected, but Takahashi was basically forced to ditch the gears lore because Squaresoft didn't feel confident in a sequel and he took it to Namco. If ever you see something in saga that makes you think "that's totally something from gears!" its basically supposed to be in some convoluted spiritual sense.
Considering they put stocking cover-ups on that Xenoblade chick's legs... doubt it.
