Yeah as far as moving things forward it's gonna be difficult, innovation is scary to devs now cuz it just screams non profitable. Better to just follow the loot boxes, fortnite and gaas trends than to try and make art and/or innovate.
Some of my favorite games this Gen like persona 5, gravity Rush 2, the last guardian, breath of the wild, nier, and God of war have prioritized being art/unique over following the trends and it's getting more and more rare

Bro your opinion when it comes to anything Western developed is immediately null and void. Yakuza 0, gravity Rush 2, kingdom hearts 1.2_2.5 re, Mario kart 8 deluxe, Splatoon 2 and a few more. I mean damn it was a strong year.

I'm not suggesting exactly that per se, more that if your first party studio develops an exclusive then either A: don't release it in the same window as a bunch of other more established exclusives on your platform or B: at least give it some marketing so it doesn't drown in a crowded window.
Also Sony helped publish a few of those for it's platform so why not market them, they market games like cod and red dead which aren't ev...

Gotta agree with you on that last point, I like Sony but damn do they have an issue with marketing their exclusives.
Last year in Q1 Sony had gravity Rush 2, tales of bersia, yakuza 0, nioh, kingdom hearts 1.5 2.5 hd, nier automata and ni no Kuni 2 all releasing in the same period but unless you follow PlayStation heavily you'd think horizon zero Dawn was the only game dropping the first half of the year with how hard Sony pushed it. Wow something we agree on entirely, this game strike so many of my negative check boxes it's ridiculous and I was so hyped for FO4 after 3 and NV and I was let down harder than a choke slam. Too bad really but theirs alot of great games on the horizon so no loss really.
