The answer to that lies in legal purgatory. Lets say you have a cartridge of SMB3, you can have a rom of it IF AND ONLY IF the rom is from the cartridge that you own. 24 hour rule or not, if the rom is not from YOUR copy of the game, then it is illegal.
Pros utilize "true combos" Combos that, besides divine intervention, cannot be stopped by ANYTHING!

I liked VIII better than IX, the card game on 8 is the best FF minigame ever!
The best part was that it focuses on a main character then forces you to deal without him for awhile. The first time I played through, I was screwed at that part. My party was Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. When Cloud left I was all "Ok, no prob, I still have Tifa and Barret" Then Tifa left...damn it!
Ended up being Barret and a weak Cid and Red 13 against the Ultima Weapon, good times, good times.
Hell if people can pull off Virtua Fighter online, which is arguably the most technical fighter out there, Soul Calibur should be no problem. Tekken online was pretty good too.
You can do it to a friends PS3 and make him think you are breaking it. Or giving it an exorcism.
