It wasn't an just emulator on the ps3. The physical drive can play ps1 games. Even the later models. Just not the physical ps2 games.

I think because it was a physical drive, they didnt have to mess with liscening issues. If you had it, you can play it. With emulation, it is different. Which is another reason to love physical games.

Upping trade in value would be cool, but I would like to see more retro stuff, personally. The games I get used are pretty cheap, and I always look for sales on the new stuff, so price doesnt bother me.
The negative outweighs any positives if the kid overdoes it. The little you gain, you lose with social interaction, engaging with other activities, people, familial relationships, etc. As I said, if a kid plays a couple hours a day, cool. Nowadays you have the rise of the streamer, and people playing like a real job, over 12 hours a day. Good for them. Pick up a book. Or start drawing. Or play an instrument. Use your imagination. I think that the way kids consume this stuff is stunting the growth of the brain. If it's used as an outlet for fun, it's fine. Have you seen kids spend 12-14 hours a day on games? It's not healthy mentally or physically. Limits on gaming is fine if you are underage.

Batteries aren't a big deal, but they could include a rechargeable pack with the system. I mean, we have the technology.

The specs, as it sits now, are better. Personally, Microsoft cant compete with Sony first party wise, or second most times. Unless the ps5 totally bricks right out the box, the reason to buy a gaming console is games. But, whatever, as I will buy the console which has my favorite games on it.
