That's not entirely true, the PS3 is able to display full RGB through HDMI but it'll only look good if your TV supports it, mine does, and it certainly feels like you get deeper colors and more variation in black tones, besides, some games will upscale to 1080p rather than 720p and then there's the ones that natively run at 1080p like Super Stardust HD, but like blumatt said, those are VERY rare.
