Well, my dear, there are lot of games cheaper on steam (specially during sales) than on Amazon. ;)
I agree with everyone here talking about the "more ads" and "mo' better marketing" :) .
Videogames isn't a primary necessity, so not everyone in the world want to spend at least 50 bucks on a pleasure like this kind. Games are not for everyone: not everybody want to spend from 150 to 500 $ to buy a console. So, if you wanna sell even some "not so good game" to the BIG public , you gotta place advertise ANYWHERE.
Well, Minecraft / Terraria and Magicka are three titles with a lot of advertising made by users / Steam. Think about all the N4G news about Minecraft when it has started selling. Or think about the Notch's tweet about Terraria, and the news on websites like Indiegames.com/blog .
For Magicka, well, Steam sold it for a couple of bucks a week ago: that's marketing.
Child of Eden launched like a "new kinect game".
And Shadow of the Damned... wel...

Thank's God I live in EU, and the UK sites for gaming make me possible to buy NEW GAMES for 15€, 20€, delivery included.

For Steam,you own the LICENSE, but the game is yours.
