First digital downloads and now where jumping to streaming. Honestly on a weak internet connect like 1mbps or under like a high majority of people in the U.S. are running how long would it take to download a full 1080P movie or even steam it to my 360 or PS3 so I can watch it on my $3000 Sony Bravia XBR4 without getting buffering? Half the time I can't even watch a game trailer without it catching up to the stream.
considering that there is alot of people who don't rent that much to warrant a monthly fee Blockbuster will probably be top for awhile. Plus When NEtflix profit is 1/5 of blockbuster I high doubt Netflix will take over "soon."
Yeah and we all know how dreamcast ended up. The fact is if they plan a new rom drive, or using HD DVD they have to open up a factory just to produce this new rom drive and in return higher production cost.

I believe Sony underestimated the stand alone blue ray market. Last year The PS3 had the stand alone blu ray player beat in price and the opposite is true this year resulting in decline.
