They were on $45 each console late last year, by the end of this year, they should be near enough breaking even.
I'll be skipping L4D2 this time around till later on and i'm not a halo fan :p

Or you can see if your PC will run it, if not and you just fall short, you could probably upgrade it for cheaper than an xbox.
EDIT: I can't say anything, can i? He wants to enjoy the game so i am suggesting ways he can do that for a low cost, what is so wrong about that?
I'm not one of those telling everyone i'm getting it on PC because it is the "Better version" because infact i'll be getting it on 360.

Look at any console, they never got ANYWHERE till they dropped to the £200 mark, the PS3 is currently £300 and if you look at how far it has got, then you realise that the PS3 hasn't done bad at all.
So yeah, if you look at how well it has sold at the moment, then look at how well other consoles have sold once they have hit that £200 price point, then you'll see that sony probably could easily make it back up that hill.

If it looks good then i might buy one eventually, not the first lot, because look at the first lot of slim PS2's, the very first batch seemed to of had a overheating problem.
Maybe sony learned from that because they did manage to fix it very quickly, but even still its new tech, never trust new tech.

I like the XMB, however there is one thing i dislike about it.
As sony have updated it, it just seems to be getting a bit messy, it needs cleaning up with some internal menu's in the XMB, give us the ability to customise it however we like, create our own menu's, create subfolders, oh and applications need more integration with each other.
