I think what we need to look at is that it's not just a loss for Sony but developers of video games. If hardware lets hacker to freely pirate video game then the money that developer should've got is loss because people can just pirate the game and play for free. Maybe that's why there are more exclusives for Sony because developers know they will get the money they deserve.
All I know is that
1 loyal customer > 10 regular customer
and I think Sony got tons of more loyal customer and we know that this effect shows in long run and this year will be the year that you can see the effect with bare naked eyes by showing that PS3 has more worldwide sales.

5 times ok like seriously that's my PS3 + 4 other friends PS3s. I never had to use my blu ray on my friend's PS3 more than 2 times.
it's little bit of hassle for non-hackers but if it can stop multiplayer game hackers then I think it's worth it.
