Actually, it makes more sense to review things like this. They can report on how well it works, or if it works as advertised.
For games, movies, music, etc.. the reviews are all based a lot on personal opinion and tastes which make the review worthless.
People buy MP3s and play them on their phones. I don't get what you're trying to say.

Direct-X is a MS technology, it will never be on a non-MS platform. XBox is short for Direct-XBox, I don't see MS allowing another Direct-X console.

They have plenty of backups of the sources throughout the process. Backup disks, tapes, and source control systems.
The disks were just different benchmarks along the way that they could insert into the dev machines for testers.
They could make another copy of any of those disks at any time they wanted. They are just destroying them so that they don't get leaked.
