If you're doing it right FFVIII junction system could make a low party overpowered. I kept my party in the high 20s until the end of disc 2.
Prefer Sci-Fi or modern settings for my JRPGs, but I'd still place FFIX over VII and VIII (VIII ranks pretty high for me as well).
The game is underrated to be honest.
Great cast of characters, story, charming art style. My only complaint is the trance system and it can be very grind heavy at times (learning abilities)

I get that their catering to old school jrpgs, but their approach is so boring and bland. They should take notes from the Octopath Traveler and the Bravely series.

If there's a Vagrant Story remake it should be developed my Business Division 4 and have Yasumi Matsuno return as writer/director.
That was my issue with their previous titles as well. The past games were riding so much on the nostalgia train and nothing else. This title looks to be more interesting.

The franchise is far from garbage, and good on them from taking it out.
The developers canceled the PS4 port not Sony. The studio is facing financial challenges, the PC version is doing poorly both sales and reception wise. Why waste more money that they can't afford for a mediocre game they developed?
