The character selection now may seem odd, but thats probably because Superbot wants to show that there will be a variety of characters and not just brawlers (drake, sly, kratos, jak, ratchet )

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Ellen And Keats in the game. Sure the characters themselves aren't the most vivid or colorful, but they both have some kick ass folks at their disposal and could easily go head to head with other characters if the correct folks are chosen.

Actually the developers decided to name it God Of War Ascension because they didn't want people to think it was a SEQUEL to GOW 3. Not because they are "ashamed" to have created so many games in the same franchise.
It was stated in an GOW Ascension multiplayer special which is available in the PS Store in the E3 section.

I think that the super only K.O. mode will be the default mode of the game. With some additional modes which resemble SSB available to appeal to a wider audience.
