No one is forgetting them it's just that Shenmue fans have been waiting for so long for this moment that they are perhaps the most vocal supporters on the internet forums since they needed the Kickstarter to be really successful than the $2M than what was planned. It's also their way for hyping the game to have a chance of getting Shenmue to the mainstream. FFVIIR, UC4, Horizon, NMS and TLG would get their share of hype once they are closer to release.
I wish it'll be more successful as proof that partnering with Sony is the best way to put comatosed IPs back from the brink of death but the series is niche from a niche console. Expecting it to top FFVIII R or UC4 is pretty much a dream within a dream at best. Just hoping it makes a profit is good enough and probably a Shenmue 4 down the line perhaps.

Your analogy is incorrect. Sony is like a tree that came from their electronics mainly their TVs, walkman, radios. Sony sprouted seeds. The owner planted it. Out of it came the playstation brands, PCs, entertainment business, smartphones etc. They are the new trees that came from Sony's old business. They aren't just some branches.
