Yeah they must be insane to leave the story telling to their other forms of media. How dare they make money on more than the video games. It's not like everyone can just pick up a book and read!
Halo is more than the game. Plenty of details can be found in all sorts of media. The details, like why Cortana went psycho is due to Rampancy and the fear of being put out of commision. This was made clear in Halo 4 though. And explained in more detail in Halo 5. She went into the Domain and it cured her Rampancy. Now if you don't know what the Domain is Wikipedia and YouTube can help.

Halo ships with 20 maps at launch. And then another 18 post launch. Now that's map service.
After reading the reviews but before playing the game, I was thinking the campaign story would suck. But after playing for myself (currently on the last mission)... the story is great. And there is an epic fight a couple missions before that left my jaw on the floor. Masterchief is a beast!!!!
They have regular controllers for guys like you that can't afford or don't want to pay 150 for the elite. So what's the problem?
