Selling 42 out of 44.5 mln consoles worldwide is a very high sellthrough rate, which is doubtful.
Probably majornelson was high tonight.
Call me whenever they make a fighting game based on the wireframe mode of Tekken 2, with 1:1 mapping.
Thanks.
If this thing takes off why would they waste their money on you while they can throw a few laggy bones at casuals and sell for massive profit?
Of course let's wait for VGAwards and GDC, but I wouldn't be surprised from a slowdown in core games by MS first party studios.
It only makes sense looking at the fact MS is going to bundle this as subcontroller in most 360 SKUs from now on. As a standalone unit there would be no way to sell out the entire shipment in less than a year and a half at least.
PS3 became barely profitable a few months ago.
...and then you wonder why they bet everything on Kinect.
Their so-far direct competitor is 100$ more expensive, they've got 3 full months on the market to sell their new console (Sony started selling the Slim from the end of August), plus they had a massive clearance of older SKUs (lots of offers), and yet not only they sold less than Sony in the same quarter last year (2.9 vs 3.2), they sold even less than the PS3 in the same quarter this year (2.9 vs 3.5).
360 S is cheaper to make, it's sold at a high pricepoint (compared to the costs) and sold tons during the last months.
They probably had very low expectations. Either that, or the US sales really made up for the bomba in the rest of the world.
They should think about making their announced games run at 60fps (at least DMC) before even thinking about new ones.
Hardcore gamers can tell whether a game sucks or not, whether an idea or a series has become stale and they mostly vote with their wallet. Mainstream gamers and casual gamers buy whatever crap publishers throw at them, they are way easier to please, that's why companies took the gimmick approach and released those fads like move, kinect and wii before those two.
As for FPSes, it's not like each and every one of them sells well, but it's the most common genre in su...
They said they were producing 2 mln Kinects per month.
They probably stopped the second, maybe the third one.
If Kinect fails or doesn't really take off it could be another HD-DVD debacle, pure madness to produce so many expensive peripherals without the absolute certainty of selling them out.
Even I would go apeshit over a free console, no matter which one.
If anything, it would be free money if I didn't want it.
It's pretty much clear to anybody that the Jrpg market on homeconsoles is doomed. At this point whether a Tales game goes multiplatform or a Final Fantasy game goes multi makes no difference: the very few niche titles left for homeconsoles will go to PS3, the remaining big hitters in development on both PS3 and 360. This until 3DS comes and steamrolls us all.
"FFIX sucked and that was for only one platform"
FFIX was easily one of the best Jrpg eve...
People would probably forgive them if the game released in 2010.
Not even last gen developers cared about polishing PS2 version of multiplatforms games, now that the market has shifted towards the West why would they waste time on fixing the PS3 version of their titles? It's not like the mainstream will notice anyway, except for cases like Bayonetta which is like a whole another experience (a bad one if you have seen the xbox version in video or tried it) on PS3.
It's you who have to follow developers providing them easy-to-handle ...
Gran Turismo 5 has its biggest market in Europe, where Microsoft has no way to withstand the impact, no matter how big the marketing campaign for Kinect is. This regardless of the fact Kinect is going to sell to non-gamers, which should make this whole article a non-issue.
Why would they hire PS3-only developers if they company is planning to make mostly multiplatform games? It's not like they will fire those people after Versus.
Next main Halo will be for XBOX720.
Arguably one of the worst ends of the year in the history of videogaming, that list is for people which luckily for them have lots of money to waste. The fact Wii's line up is easily the best one should be a good enough hint.
The financial reports said 44.5, it's easy to ship 500k units worldwide in a month.
Regardless this is nothing but damage control, if Sony managed to shrink the gap during the slim360 launch quarter then it's probably safe to assume that unless kinect becomes a KA and totally murders the competition then Sony will be ahead by the end of 2011.
Pyrrhus victory in either case.
