3DS successor depends on Switch performance on the market. It not really on the way. They are only considering the option base on the Switch

Ever since they updated the way the Nintendo Network work on Wii U.
I was unable to see all the download list on the entire system which most were under my older brother which is where we made most of our game library purchase and DLC.
Before it was all under every user but since that update it was never the case. To further prove my point. Deleting you Nintendo Network ID from My Nintendo erased everything you own because you deleted your account.
