Not really though. It’s not the developers (I believe) it’s the publishers. For example, I don’t think it was sledgehammer’s idea to add 5000 pistol grips into the ww2 lootboxes. Visceral was liquified because they didn’t. The money trail says the opposite of what you are saying. It’s changing for sure, but it’s not crashing lol. It’s far too diverse to crash. Trends just get replaced now.

I know I’m free to not buy them because I don’t buy them. I earn them playing the game like a normally would. I’m indifferent towards them. You are not forced to own every skin.
They know they are free not to buy them. That’s not why they cry lol. They cry because they exist and they have no leverage to stop it. That’s why they have resorted to cheering government involvement and pretending that they care about “the kids”. Me personally, I would take free lootboxes over paying the “fair price” for the free items.
