Well we know Yukio has been working on it for a while with his own team. Darkside did seem like more of a contract studio so obviously their product may not have been up to par with what Yukios team was making.
That's what the conceptual trailer was built after, and if this article is right these guys had no idea what they were doing in terms of Yukios vision.
Microsoft didn't get rich by making poor investments. They didn't like the product the way the product looked so they didn't continue investing in it.
And we've known for a year that these guys WERENT the only ones working on PD.

Obviously what Dark Side was pushing out wasn't good enough for Phil Spencer to put the funding in their hands. Phil is still deeply invested in PD being brought back but if it isn't how he envisioned then why pour money only to have a sub par release.
They want PD to be in Esports... They want it to become that next big competitive game/genre. And if the product opens poorly it'll be impossible to get the right funding.

I'd love Brute Force to be brought back but I know Phil is trying to diversify the franchise lineup a bit more. Adding another shooter when they've got two of the best (Halo/Gears) defeats the purpose in a way. But hopefully one day we see it get another shot.

Third party games are SUPERIOR on PC. But that's not a legit reason to invest money into a budget PC.
We own consoles for convenience, which system runs third party games isn't that important unless you see a game broken and unplayable on one system due to developer negligence. No Skyrims have been released yet so your point is pretty weak.

But you see Halo has always been the pushing factor in Xbox. If you factor in the amount of X1s they'll be selling with this long running marketing campaign that puts heavy emphasis on the now MCC X1 Bundle.
And then factor in all the H5 Guardians X1 Limited Edition Consoles (You know there will be). It'll be BIG, that's why 7 months of marketing will be huge if they keep the momentum going.
343i now has 2 buildings. Don't worry about how much production value is in the game. Just the fact that the marketing campaign has begun 7 months before launch is shocking.
