Pay wall? You might wanted to read into Destiny more, because the only things behind a pay wall is stuff the dlc adds.
They have offer ways to reach higher levels without the dlc, with this dlc old gear is getting upgraded (like Fatebringer).
Doesn't need to be saved, still has a huge fan base that plays.
If you can unlock them, then your cry for nothing. It be something to cry about if paying was the only way to unlock it.
Beside they will keep doing stuff like this until they don't have a huge number of people paying.

Doesn't matter to me, I use my Sony reward points to get a $10 PSN and use it to buy this and a new theme.
