I personally don't think anti-piracy is required. As long as you have something like Steam, which stops zero day piracy, I think you can sell enough if the game is good enough. But to have the game uncrackable for four weeks+ is a huge win. W3 proves you can do no piracy and sell well.

These are not the same as the in game textures, they are clearly lower resolution.
The Taken Army are the same models reskinned with a few new moves. That's the entire premise of the army. I don't see how that qualifies as "vague similarity." They are just a differnet color. Their weapons and abilities are new. The review notes all of this in an accurate fashion.
Exo suits did change the multiplayer a bit, but I don't think it was a good change. They were too erratic, like those side dashes and jumps. I think BO3 has a better movement system.

Complete rebuild of assets and levels from a game 10+ years old = good.
Resolution upscale of a game not even 5 years old = bad.
