Tomb Raider is actually way more like The last of us than it is like Uncharted and this is exactly the reason why i love the new Tomb Raider games and can't stand the Uncharted IP, Uncharted is to narrow, linear and simple for me, like you said Uncharted is only about spectacle and graphics and it is not much about adventure, survival and gameplay.
Tomb Raider is actually way more like The last of Us than it is like Uncharted. Tomb Raider is a way more open game, you have big open Areas with a lot of collectables and hidden tombs and secret to explore and you have a lot of possibilities to develope your character with different skills you can add and even enhance the weapons you want to use. Uncharted on the other side is a way more linear game. I don't like the Uncharted games they are way to narrow for me.
Tin-foil hat? There is only 1 single Gears of War 4 review linked on the N4G frontpage and even this is out of all the many possibles ones the only real negative review the game got. You should look what happens at N4G when a Playstation exclusive game gets released like the already mentioned Uncharted 4. Sony is obviously using this "good" selection of rental games for the purpose of prevent a backlash for the increased price again. They used this exact same tactic when they introduced Playstation Plus they had amazing games in the first period on PS3 when they had to lure people in on the service, Sony not even got any backlash when they announced that PS plus would be mandatory to play online on PS4 because everyone was so seduced but Sony quickly showed their real face after time...
Almost every game is a grind in one way or another, you always grind for more money better weapons or getting better stats. @joeorc of course you can criticize every survey even the one of highly respected social academics quite likely will have some weak spots and if it comes to the theoretical approach you always could make things a little bit different.
But for what it is this survey is quite interesting it is with a large amount of people and the results are interesting to say the least.
The amount of people is not low it is actually large for a sample but your other point the social desirability bias might be valid criticism, this kind of effects are often a point of concerns regarding interviews but it is rather an issue in face to face interviews and less likely in this case with a questionary where the participants stay anonymous and even if this effects still would be present within this study it doens't really makes sense that this is different't among Playstati...
17.000 people is actually a really large sample it is more than enough, most surveys work with way way less. The more important part when it comes to random sample is does your sample reflect your population decently similar gender ratio and so on. With a proper randome sample you easily can extrapolate from a few hundreds of people to populations of 100 Millions.
This is not a surprise at all, Xbox One has the best games of all consoles and it has the games with the longest durability without a doubt. Halo, Forza, Gears of War all this games have some of the best multiplayer among the whole gaming industrie you can play all of them even years after you bought them for thousands of hours, as opposed most Playstation4 games are done after 5 or 10 hours like Uncharted4 or The Order 1886.

@IvanSF what? Titanfall1 and Evolve are both multiplayer only games they have both kind of good ratings on metacritic Titanfall 86 and Evolve about 80. So both are very similar games even got released around the same time. The only real difference is that Titanfall profited a lot of the Xbox exclusivity and the hype because of it and the other game not Evolve even got ignored by Playstation gamers.

The one of the major reason why Titanfall got that much hype was because of its exclusivity i think this IP profited a lot of this deal and now with the second part a lot of Playstation gamers are starving to finally be able to play this IP and experience for their own what all the hype was about. This exclusivity was a smart decision.
Most games are about war or have at least a guns a weapon or you fight to kill someone and war always will be and always was male-dominated. How is the gender ratio within the armys of our world? If you know the answer to this question you know why most Playable Characters in games are males. And this is not because the society would not let females work as soldier femalse simply have way less interrest to become a soldier than males.
