the trick in youtube video doesn't work for 60GB EU version, I will have to take the blu-ray drive apart. It's also not easy to fix YLOD yourself unless you have a good heat gun that allows you to set the exact output air temperature and even then it's risky - you can bend the mainboard or damage the CPU/GPU. The really professional solution would be doing it on a rework machine and use new solder.
- my EU launch 60GB PS3 died on Saturday (YLOD)... I was 30 hours into playing Persona 4, loved the game... now the game disk is stuck in the blu-ray drive, my game saves lost. If I only had a heat gun to try to melt the solder under RSX and CPU to resurrect it for at least a day... Teddiiieee!!!!
understand people who claim Alan Wake has great graphics... The game has a draw distance of 3 meters, is slow paced and there are never more than 2 enemies on screen. :-D
have a time machine - check?
"... has a high end PC capable of playing Mass Effect 1 and 2 on mid-settings". It's the other way round - you only need an average PC to play ME2 on high settings. ME being exclusive to "MS" is fine for me as long as it is not exclusive to the crappy white console (=don't have to buy it in order to play ME) and as long as MS doesn't get a cent from me (PC games are royalty free).
What these hackers have been aiming for was reconstructing XMB/GameOS inside OtherOS because it's impossible to run your own applications under GameOS unless you have the root keys to digitally sign your program. They will never be able to get the root keys... well they might if they had an electron microscope (costs around $100.000), disolved the processor casing with acid and spent months inspecting the SPU dedicated to security under the microscope.
- mostly kids in 3rd world countries looking for attention and recognition among their peers. Really competent computer scientists don't waste their time with this idle toying - they prefer getting a job in a world class IT company, earning a lof of money and developing something useful and more demanding.
... there would still be a fine solution for you - just never update your PS3. Only you won't be able to sign into PSN. Or is Sony obliged to keep PSN alive as long as there's one person with a working PS3 in Denmark too?
lose money on consoles (the production costs are higher than the end price) and only get their investment back from game royalties. Buying consoles and playing pirated games on them hurts console producers. I study computer science and have zero interest in console modding... a loss of time - I have a PC for this.
I predicted exactly this step from Sony. "bye bye hypervisor, I'm the script kid geofake who found a worthless glitch, claimed PS3 is 100% hacked and now thanks to me nobody will be able to use Linux under PS3 anylonger".
geofake hasn't hacked anything, he just found a useless glitch. I assure you this so called hack won't lead to the possibility of playing pirated games or running your apps in gameOS. Moreover it's easy for Sony to patch this glich if they wanted - they just have to remove the OtherOS link from XMB. People at Sony who implemented the PS3 security mechanisms must have a good laugh reading reports about this alleged hack.
AA like Fable II? http://www.metacritic.com/g...
not only U2 looks better than that screenshot but so do Critter Crunch or Super Mario Bros on Wii. Why? Because those games have what they call 'art direction' while Crysis is just an attempt at photorealism.
"should become", "it might work", "if crytek implements all..."
Good that i didn't click the link... So basically they don't know anything and are just dreaming and guessing but the title says it will beat Uncharted 2 in terms or graphics. Great journalism. Looks like some naive people will be disappointed....
I think you overestimate Crytek, they couldn't even hire a good script writer for Crysis - it had a story like from a bad B movie, silly cliffhanger ending, no art direction, bad voice acting and myriad of bugs.
I don't think you can build a PC for $600 that can play Crysis on max. Before I bought NVIDIA GTX295 (cost me 500 euro a year ago) I had 8800GT... which gave me 4-5 fps(!) in the "Paradise Lost" level on high settings. I had to turn off AA completely and go with medium settings to have > 20 fps. GTX295 seems to be the only card that enables you to play with very high settings, 1920x1200, 4xAA at > 30fps average.
On topic: I doubt Crysis 2 on consoles will look be...
with a FW update - just removing the link to otherOS would be enough but I doubt Sony will do anything about it as this alleged hack is harmless.
What I copied/pasted explains why you can't bypass the SPU, admit you are too stupid to understand anything of it unlike me who studies computer science (Technische Informatik, Dipl-Ing.) at a prestigious German university. ;-)
Geohot goes "back to life" after "almost hacking" PS3 and a friend of a frien...
"I was saying that all the Fat PS3's are vulnerable for THIS EXPLOIT OF GEORGE HOTZ. Go upgrade your reading and comprehending capabilities droid." Great, you said the Fat PS3s were vulnurable to an utterly useless EXPLOIT OF GEORGE HOTZ. I stand corrected. Now, why would the biggest troll and xbox fanboy on this site say that?
Only time will show who is the fool here. :) For all interested in how far this bogus hack is from enabling you to run your applications in game...
another fool who believes Hotz achieved anything that will lead to homebrew or PS3 piracy. This won't even open RSX under Linux and is 1 billion light years away from breaking into the isolated SPU dedicated to security.
I have put 400+ hours into Warhawk but that and U2 were the only MP games I enjoyed this gen. I much prefer SP games (Persona 4, Ico, R&C series, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Portal, HL2). If anything games should support more offline co-op/versus mod - I loved playing LBP with my girlfriend or competing with her in Critter crunch, SF4 and FIFA (+looking forward to ModNation Racers).
