I think the mid generation refresh matters a lot as well. While not nearly as amazing as a console on the go, it is the first stepping stone for pc gamers tired of crappy lookin/playing console games mid/late gen.

Real difficulty, real character building, far superior random dungeon system, a proper non-weebo story, significantly funner/more complex item crafting, proper ARPG spell. "synergy", system.
A way more interactive community, actually having fun co-op map/leveling/magic finding.. You'll never become comfortable like you do in D3 as the game is designed to be hardcore.
