for the "hype", it's just that some ps2 gamers, xbox gamers, wii gamers, or homecinema lovers who found ps3 too expensive (often because some donkeys repeated that) can now think about it again...(for old ps3 users, it's just cool to know that if the machine die, the new one will be 299$ only :))

laughably..you are, not the 599$ price : at the time, the ps3 was already better than 1500$ dvd players (and was the better bluray player for less $), even if it's true that gamers (ans ms employees like kotaku etc etc) did'nt realised that it was already a big shot for the money.
